How Do I Promote My Music Online?

Image
Composing music is something I really enjoy doing but for me it is also very important that my music is being listened to and enjoyed by as many people as possible. Unless what you have is a truly amazing talent, resulting in a viral shock wave that promotes itself, you will most likely remain fairly unnoticed unless you take it upon yourself to promote your music. In this post I will summarize what I do to promote my music on the Internet. I will also let you know of the efforts involved, the costs and the impact it has had. This will be a long post and if you have little time, I suggest that you scroll down and look at the headers below and focus on methods you haven't used to promote your music. Create an Official Artist Web Site Early on I made sure to register my artist name as a .com domain name. That was 12 years ago and you may find that yours has already been taken, but it's still important to create your official site so consider to register the .net domain, or your l...

Spotify a.k.a. Money Grinder

In a recent post I expressed some unhappiness with Spotify's lack of interest in independent artists. While walking around in the garden with the "Computer Sweden" newspaper (August 12, 2011) I stumbled upon an article forcing me to whine more on this topic. The Article... ...explains that the employees of Spotify are jackpot winners. The shares that Spotify offered to sell to its employees last year have increased in value from around $950'000 to $45'000'000. That is an increase of 4737% which is, of course, great news for the employees that purchased shares. I'm happy for them! This share increase is, however, not what caught my attention. As I read on I find out that the shares rocketed in value following new investment funding injected into Spotify by Digital Sky Technologies and, Klein Perkins, and Accel. Figures show that this year alone, investment companies have pumped in over $100'000'000 (that is $100 million ) into Spotify. At the same ...

Evolution Released

Another sleepless night resulted in a new track called "Evolution". It's a very upbeat trance track with a very happy melody and I found the mood quite appropriate now with it being Christmas and all :) As you may have read on the main page it's a free track so the mp3-file (in very high quality) can be downloaded. My next focus will be to try and get my music launched on Spotify.com. I have already contacted them but they are not quite ready for indie-artists yet but will hopefully launch an upload platform next year some time. I think that Spotify finally delivers a good platform that is perfect for both artists and listeners. Not only is the songs extremely accessible for fans and listeners, but the artists receive compensation from the adverts on free accounts and from the paying members. It's like radio on demand basically :)
