Thoughts about fixed width vs. liquid layout

I'm in the process of planning the new Music and Games sites and I am currently batteling whether to use "fixed width" rather than "liquid layout" on the site. Today I use liquid as you can see the content adjusting automatically to the width of the browser window, but you can achieve better design (in my opinion) and also better readability with fixed width of the page. Statistics from a 2006 (yes I know, old info) show that about 60% are using a resolution of 1024x768 and up and only about 17% use the resolution 800x600. I would like to use a width of 960 pixels of the new web sites. I may do some testing with what I feel may be the optimal solution, that is a maximum width of 960 pixels but a fluid layout to accomodate for users still using lower resolutions. More on this topic later.

    Well, I'm using a screen resolution of 1152x864.
    The music page looks a bit weird, because there is a big (and uneven) space between the track icons and the description of the track.

    Yeah, are you using firefox as well - I see the gaps are bigger in FF than in IE. I will try my best to get the new pages look good in both IE and FF (I probably won't be verifying them in other browsers).

Leaving The Outpost (Game Music)

It's tough to find time to make music these days, especially now that both my children are ill with eye infections and flu. Still, I managed to find a spare moment in the evening to compose this space inspired song. I decided to call the song "Leaving The Outpost" and I imagine a peaceful and relaxing space scene, maybe in an adventure, RTS, or MMORPG. The song features two sections. First a mellow melodic section with soft synth leads playing a beautiful melody and layers of filtered pads. C64 remixing

Last night I spent a few hours starting to remix a classic old C64 SID-track to be released on remix.kwed.org which has turned out to be a good site for both constructive feedback and acting as a channel to promote Imphenzia as my last remix released there (The Fallen) has had around 3500 plays since February 2008. The remix I am working on now was originally driving me around the bend because the original has got an offbeat rhythm to it that I was determined to recreate before I add my remix twist to it, but I finally got it down... However... The sequencer doesn't quite line up the measures accordingly so it is difficult to arrange the track. Well see where it leads.
