Track 4 – Theme of Decimation X – Imphenzia 1 Track Per Day Release Marathon

UPDATE 2014-12-26: This track has been removed from SoundCloud, the marathon tracks are only downloadable for about a week. You can still get it from http://music.imphenzia.com.

Welcome again to my complete 1 track per day #Imphenzia release marathon. Every day until I run out of tracks I will release one of my tracks as a free download and write some history behind it.

If you like my music, if you want to support it, and if you don’t want to wait for the entire marathon to finish – you can download all my music as MP3 and FLAC files from http://music.imphenzia.com for what you think it is worth ($2 – $50) – there are 109 tracks to grab =)

The fourth track is Theme of Decimation X.

Many years ago I was contacted by Matthew, one of the Doucette brothers who make up Xona Games. He mentioned that he’d give me a shout if they were going to make a game. Time passed and I was contacted again and I game was in the making. Duality ZF was the title and quite a few of my existing tracks were lined up to be part of the soundtrack for that game. More time passed and before the release of Duality I was requested to make a single track to be used in a new smaller game named “Decimation X” which is basically a Space Invaders. I say basically but so much sets apart the original Space Invaders from Decimation X because Xona focuses on very intense shoot’em up games and they make the games the way you remember them, and not the way they actually were.

The track needed to be 10 minutes long and carry some references to the old era of computer games but still have high intensity to keep you on the edge as you eliminate weaves of enemies and collect tons of power-ups.

Back in January 2010, Theme of Decimation X became the result of spending only about 5-6 hours in Cubase. Sometimes it’ll take me 10 failed attempts and a lot of time before I manage to make a track that I’m happy with but the Decimation X theme was a one session success and only a few tweaks were made later on.

The style of music was different from all my previous track. It features a break beat which was rare and it also has some old school Nintendo / Atari like arpeggio sounds in the background. There are some breakdowns in the track too because the gameplay carries itself during that period and it sort of acts as a guide how far you’ve progressed in the game.

Since the release of Decimation X, every now and then I get e-mailed be people who discovered Imphenzia through the game. The track was also mentioned in YouTube and other game reviews and most of them have been positive.

You’ll hear more of Decimation X tracks later on in this release marathon because I also made the music to one of the sequels (plus there is a third track that has not been released yet, maybe I can release that before the marathon ends too =)

I hope you enjoy the Theme of Decimation X and why not head over to Xona to check out their games!
